Amazon.Com and their cruelty to animals

Well over this past weekend I discovered at the Taking Action For Animals conference that Amazon.com sells magazines that promote dog and cock fighting, which are some of the most disgusting, brutal and inhumane things out there....as well as selling foie gras on their site. Dog fighting and cock fighting are illegal in all fifty states, and felonies in almost every single one of those states, except for one or two exceptions (www.hsus.org can tell you more). The magazines that Amazon.com sells, not only promote these activities, which are illegal, BUT the magazines show people how to raise & breed the fighting animals, as well as having fighting paraphernalia...AND they have actual advertisements and bulletins about upcoming fights! Now this is clearly promoting illegal activity. For two years the Humane Society of the United States has been asking Amazon.com to stop selling these articles, and they have basically been ignored. They have insisted that they have a first amendment right to sell them. However, the US Supreme Court has said that Free Speech does not cover that speech which promotes or encourages illegal activity that is actually occurring. So, Amazon is an accessory to breaking the law. HSUS has sued them, and I hope they win. Of course in the meantime I have written to Amazon to cancel my membership with them, and I've been encouraging everyone I know to do the same. Also, in case any of you don't know what foie gras is, it's a product obtained by shoving metal pipes down geese and ducks' throats and forcing them to eat much more than they are supposed to eat, up to four times a day. What this does is cause the birds' livers to become inflamed and diseased, swelling up to TEN TIMES their normal size. Then, the birds are slaughtered, all for these diseased livers, which are made into a paste and put onto crackers or toast as a delicacy. Usually, when you see the word pate, this is referring to foie gras pate. Amazon.com sells these items, so therefore this is simply another reason to boycott them, which I have done and urge everyone else I know to do as well.
